Process

So I'm on my final day of designing my front cover in InDesign for Jim.  I'm still getting to grips with this program but I'm starting to find it somewhat easier to use. Like Jim says, 'It's a matter of learning it through Youtube Tutorials if you have to'. I guess it's something you learn to love, through patience.

Soap Box

A fellow student in my class created a soap box based on Graffiti. I think my opinion on it was probably the most strongest/different. I don't mind Graffiti that has meaning, and yes it can be visually attractive sometimes but I don't agree with placing it onto peoples business's. There was a few videos in the presentation and it made me cringe, they had an elephant painted which is just cruel and completely pointless. The video also showed an artist who basically attacks walls with spray thats attached to some sort of extinguisher. I really don't understand the way Graffiti artist think more than anything.

I like Banksy, or at least tolerate his work.
His work is funny, meaningful and for once shows intelligence.

Post-Impressionism

Post-Impressionism is not considered a single style, technique or even approach to painting. Most of the famous post impressionists all developed their styles independently, but all were entitled in their reaction to impressionism.

Post-Impressionism started in 1886 till the early 1900s. Paris was the centre of Post-Impressionism, and the artists from Britain, America, the Netherlands and elsewhere, flocked there in the hopes of absorbing the city's rich culture and joining its artists elites. Cezanne spent most of his career in provence, Van Gogh led an existence touching down in France, Belgium and Holland; and Gaugin settled in Tahiti. In the work of Van Gogh and Gaugin you can see bold, intense colours and very expressive work. While in the works of Cezanne seemed concerned with structure. Seurat with the systematic use of colour dots, pointillism. Impressionists recorded nature in terms of light and colour.

Post-Impressionists rejected these limitations and instead sought to be more expressive. They were not concerned with depicting the effects of light and other visual like those seen in the impressionism movement, they were less idyllic. Van Gogh & Gaugin shared a small department and studio space. They experimented with new approaches to painting, rejecting academic approaches to realistic depiction and fine finish, as well as the impressionist fixation with light and colour.

One could say that Post-Impressionism was and still is a great way to be different and rebel against the normal. It was not only important in the past but it is also influencing work in the industry today. Japanese art was inspired by and followed on from Post-Impressionism, which now has evolved in designs today. 

SKY+ DOG SAUSAGE ADVERT

Just seen this advertisement on TV and really enjoyed it.
I was sat watching TV with the family and both, me and my dad thought we were sat on the remote...
Whoever thought of this is great, it's well though out and will catch everyones attention.
You think that you're rewinding your TV when really its the dog.
Very funny and very clever..

Last Week

Last week was a hard one.

My first deadline:

I recently got a new job and I still need to arrange my time around that and my deadlines.
I got everything done for my deadline I just didn't do it to the quality I hoped for. The pictures came out pixelated after spending over £10 on the printing job. The hole punch that I used down the side of my pages also broke and was double punching the paper so the paper looked messy.
I stayed up all night adjusting it all and it all went wrong on the day, with the technical problems etc...
I handed it in either way, with the essential paper work and what not.
Hopefully, I can go back to it on a later date to improve it.

Rachels Brief:

Decided to look into origami but I'm starting to realise that its very time consuming.
I still want to continue with it but during the weekend I will look at similar ways of working which is maybe faster? I am glad I changed my quote as I can work a lot with it.

Jims Brief:

I showed Jim my logo design and he seemed happy with it.
Its really simplistic and rememberable.
I will start to draw out my characters next lesson and scan them in.

Lees Brief:

Looked at a slideshow website given by Lee for inspiration which helped me a lot.
I will start to design my slide show and art review cover next lesson.

Pentagram Presentation:

Me and Sophie were so happy with our presentation the night before as we rehearsed it a lot.
Except on the day we came to realise that you had to make the slideshow ten minutes long.


Hard week, more of those to come... no doubt.

Over the half term...

Me and the girls from my class decided to organise a trip to Salford to see a Typography exhibition.
However, when we got there we received some unfortunate news that there was a spanish meeting on in the room of that exhibition.
Oh well, we tried and we shall try again!
We had fun, that was the main thing :)
